- ID: 321
- Name: Site Wide Notice
- Minimum user level: Administrator
- Compatible with page layouts: N/A
Notices: Emergency vs Site Wide
While both Emergency Notices and Site Wide Notices share the same visual style, their publishing workflows and intended uses differ significantly:
- Emergency Notice: Use for urgent, time-sensitive messages. These are designed for short-term display and utilize an automated publishing workflow.
- Site Wide Notices: Use for general announcements that are less time-sensitive and intended to remain on the site for longer periods.
Guidance
- Channel Publish: Site Wide Notices require a full channel publish (scheduled or manual) to complete to display a notice on all pages across the site.
- Data Handling: Site Wide Notices are pulled into pages using related content navigation object (id: 263) to fetch data from the content type.
- Notice Types: There are 3 types of notice:
- Emergency (Red): Used for critical alerts. These are persistent and cannot be closed by the user.
- Warning (Orange): Used for important updates. These include a "close" option.
- Message (Blue): Used for general information. These include a "close" option.
- Close Option: When a user closes a notice, a cookie
notice-id[content id]e.g.,notice-is1234is stored in their browser to prevent the same message from reappearing. This "hidden" state lasts for 7 days, after which the notice will reappear if it is still published. Note: This does not apply for type Emergency, as they cannot be closed. - Notice Page: Optionally a notice page can be added to provide more information. When added a "Learn More" button is displayed on the notice which links to the notice page.
- Best Practice: To maintain a clean user interface, it is recommended to have only one notice (either Emergency or Site Wide) active at any given time.
