Jessica Kreutter is an artist whose practice centers on themes of embodiment, memory, transformation, and humanity’s entanglement with the natural world. Grounded in material awareness and a deep sense of place, her recent work reflects on cycles of presence and return, considering the body as temporary, porous, and inseparable from the earth and its histories.

Working primarily in porcelain, Kreutter creates hand-built forms that exist in states of transition. Her objects blur boundaries between reality and fantasy, beauty and discomfort, containment and fragmentation. Influenced by architectural ornamentation and domestic objects, her sculptures incorporate disrupted borders and interwoven elements that evoke experiences of grief, ecstasy, spiritual connection, and deep emotional transformation.

Composed of many individually constructed parts assembled during firing or installation, Kreutter’s work functions as a conduit for memory and imagination. Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to reconsider how bodies, objects, and environments intersect—opening space for alternative ways of imagining the self as interconnected, impermanent, and in continual transformation.

About the Work:

As the structures of our world collapse into chaos, we must still find moments and spaces to wonder, to reimagine, to work from love. In falling apart, we lay open and vulnerable. Perhaps the pathway through ruin can be a transformation into tenderness, a gentle opening to suffering and grief that allows us to rediscover what truly matters.

Inside the three cauldrons are broken, collapsed elements from my past sculptures melded together with heat and glaze...a transmutation of sorts. Above hangs a golden net of drips, of all that can happen in a place of imagination and wonder. Clouds float by holding the rubble of our world as our sorrow overflows from us and fills our cups.
