Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS)

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Healthcare Management is designed to prepare students for career advancement or entry-level healthcare managerial positions. The degree program enables working professionals to advance their careers by focusing on leadership skills, knowledge, and credentials in healthcare management.

This program at Houston City College use a selective admissions process and requires an additional application beyond applying. Enrollment is limited, and not all qualified applicants may be offered placement. Please review the admission dates below carefully to ensure you complete all required steps by the required deadlines.

  • An applicant must have an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in a healthcare, medically related field, or business management to be eligible to apply.
    • A total of 120 Credits is required to graduate with the Bachelor of Healthcare Management.
    • An applicant should fulfill the BAS program electives totaling 39 credits with the AAS degree (Health Care Program Credits).
    • The BAS degree requires a total of 45 Academic Credits. (General Education Core Credits) and a total of 36 BAS credits. (Healthcare Management Courses). 
      Please submit all official college transcripts to the HCC admissions office.
  • Students with AAS degrees from HCC Coleman College are awarded priority admission.
  • Prior college-level coursework must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • HCC Coleman College health science AAS students, within the last two semesters of graduation (Fall 2025 or Spring 2026), are eligible to apply for the Fall cohort. However, the associate degree must be completed before official acceptance into the BAS Healthcare Management program.
    Students completing a degree in the Summer 2026 semester will be considered if seats are available for admission. If issued admission, a student must submit proof of conferred degree by the end of the Fall 2026 semester.
  • If the applicant is not a current HCC student and applies to the BAS Healthcare Management program, the applicant must provide HCC with official transcripts that show completion of a healthcare or medical-related AAS degree. The AAS degree must be issued from an institution that is regionally accredited by an agency that is recognized by HCC.

Once Admission Has Been Offered

Complete the letter of intent by the deadline stated in the admission acceptance offer email, which the admissions office will send to the email address provided in your application.

 

Houston City College Bachelor of Applied Science in Healthcare Management students should be able to:

  • Analyze and interpret healthcare data and information for effective decision-making that related to delivery, quality, regulatory policies and ethical guidelines.
  • Demonstrate professional competencies in communication, information technology, management, and leadership, independent or in a collaborative team while building stakeholder relationships.
  • Evaluate and demonstrate advocacy and cultural competence across populations, communities, and individual healthcare settings.
  • Apply effective resource management practices to improve organizational effectiveness.
