Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes, exploring how people think, feel, and act. Students examine topics such as learning, memory, perception, development, motivation, personality, stress, mental health, and social behavior. Through this broad curriculum, students gain insight into real-world issues including relationships, prejudice, trauma, workplace behavior, and overall well-being.

Psychology, A.S.
The Associate of Science in Psychology is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree. Requirements must be completed in addition to Field of Study Curriculum degree requirements in order to complete all program requirements for this specialization.
To be eligible for an Associate in Science (AS) degree from HCC, a student must complete at least 60 semester credit hours as follows:
- 43 hours of required core courses
- 6 additional hours of mathematics
- 4 additional hours of natural science
- 7 hours of transferable electives, usually focusing on the student's transfer major
Students will be able to:

Define, discuss and apply key terms and concepts that are essential to success in upper division psychology courses (e.g., abnormal psychology, history and systems of psychology, advanced learning theory, developmental psychology, industrial/organizational psychology).

Outline, define, discuss and apply the steps of the scientific method.

Define, discuss and apply key terms and concepts associated with descriptive and experimental research methods.

Define, discuss and apply psychological terms and concepts that are commonly found in news reports, self-help literature, parenting literature and psychotherapy.
