Resiliency Workforce Collaborative

With a $3.3 million commitment by JPMorgan Chase Foundation, the Resiliency Workforce Collaborative was established in December 2022 to improve local disaster resilience, increase career opportunities, and create talent pipelines for businesses.

Led by Houston City College, the collaborative unites more than 80 local community partners to offer resilient career training and wraparound services as part of the JPMorganChase investment. The collaborative is among the first of its kind to bring Houston’s public, private, educational, and non-profit organizations together to achieve these important goals:

  • Help prepare Houston for greater resilience in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
  • Increase career opportunities for residents who come from some of Houston’s most underserved and under-resourced neighborhoods.
  • Make a positive difference in employer efforts to find trustworthy, skilled talent.
  • Support the Gulf Coast Region during our energy transition to remain the energy capital of the world.

The Collaborative has made impactful contributions to the Houston region since its inception.

  • 36,068 Houstonians served
  • 7,615 Individuals placed into jobs and training programs
  • 6,388 Residents found full-time employment
  • $19—Average hourly wage
  • 1,633 Earned credentials and certifications
  • 1,280 Workers retained and promoted
  • 3,146 Individuals received financial coaching and education

The growing collective of partner organizations is focused on training and careers in clean energy, disaster response, utilities, trades, and manufacturing. The collaborative continues to seek out additional funding streams and employers to support the growth and success of these efforts.

This collaborative provides a ‘go-to place’ for Houstonians to learn skills that will lead to good paying jobs. It is a better system because it’s set up to fulfill needs that already exist in the workplace.

The Resilient Workforce Collaborative brings together the public sector, private sector, higher education institutions, and our nonprofit partners to make transformational change in our most underserved neighborhoods. The collaborative complements our efforts within the Complete Communities to prepare low-to-moderate income Houstonians for high-demand jobs and increase the diversity of candidates in the talent pipelines for green careers that will advance our city’s resilience. This resourceful partnership is a welcomed addition to Houston’s workforce development landscape.
