When Marisabel Morales sent her model down the runway at the 10th annual Fashion Fusion competition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, she made history. Morales, a student in HCC's award-winning Fashion Design program, became the first student to construct a fully 3D-printed gown––and the only designer at “Fashion Fusion X” to present a garment created entirely through 3D printing. The show on Jan. 30 paid tribute to the legendary artist Frida Kahlo.

When Jeromecia Brantley left the Tampa, Florida area two years ago, she wasn’t just relocating, she was starting over. With three young children in tow, she came to Houston determined to rewrite her story and show her two sons and daughter that it’s never too late to build something better.

As a woman of Mexican descent, Tanya Roche always felt drawn to the esteemed artist Frida Kahlo, known for her self-portraits of pain, passion and vibrant colors. Roche, a 47-year-old HCC Fashion Design student, originally from Queens, New York, used to buy clothing and dress like the famous artist in different phases of her life.

When Brittaney Wilmore reflects on her path to a career in broadcast journalism, she credits HCC with giving her more than an education. It gave her confidence, community and a clear sense of direction.

When DeShanna Negret first enrolled at HCC in 2019, she was struggling with the reality that her oldest daughter was a senior in high school, and her two younger daughters were not far behind.
