The Associate in Science is intended primarily for students planning on transferring to a senior college or university to receive a baccalaureate degree in the following areas: computer science, engineering, health and natural sciences, or mathematics.

The Biology program at Houston City College introduces students to life at every level - from microbes to plants, animals, and the human body. Courses are offered in person and online. Coursework includes General Biology I and II (for science and non-science majors), Microbiology (for science and non-science majors), Anatomy and Physiology, Zoology, Botany, Nutrition, Genetics, and Introductory biotechnology.

The Business program at Houston City College prepares students for success in today’s global economy through active, real-world learning with faculty and industry partners. With strong job demand for graduates holding an associate degree in business, students can pursue AA and AAS pathways as well as certificates in multiple specializations.

The Business Technology program at Houston City College prepares students for administrative and office roles by building strong technology, communication, and organizational skills. The competency-based curriculum is aligned with industry expectations to ensure graduates are workforce-ready.

The Chemistry program at Houston City College provides a strong foundation in chemical principles, laboratory techniques, and scientific analysis. Students gain hands-on experience while exploring topics such as chemical reactions, molecular structure, and the role of chemistry in everyday life and industry.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) focuses on how organizations use technology to support daily operations, solve problems, and make informed decisions. Students in this field learn how to analyze business needs, design and manage computer-based systems, support users, and improve processes through technology, often serving as a bridge between technical systems and the people who use them. Professionals in Computer Information Systems may work with databases, networks, software applications, and emerging technologies to ensure systems are efficient, secure, and aligned with organizational goals across a wide range of industries.

The Computer Science program equips students with the technical skills and problem-solving abilities needed to thrive in a technology-driven world. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students explore programming, software development, algorithms, data structures, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

The Criminal Justice program at Houston City College offers an AA transfer pathway and an AAS degree with concentrations in law enforcement, corrections, or juvenile justice. A Basic Peace Officer Licensing certificate is also available. Students must be 21 or older to enter the police academy, and Texas requires a four-year degree for careers such as probation officer or protective services worker.

The Associate of Arts in Dance at Houston City College prepares students for dance careers or transfer to four-year programs. Students develop technique in African, ballet, jazz, and modern dance; study choreography; and gain performance experience in a supportive environment led by professional faculty and guest artists. The program is committed to developing well-rounded, culturally diverse, and thoughtful dancers.

The Drama Program at Houston City College offers strong classroom instruction in theatre arts while fostering close artistic mentorships with faculty and professional staff. Students gain hands-on experience through numerous performance, technical, and design opportunities, supporting growth as well-rounded theatre artists.

The Engineering program at Houston City College allows students to complete the first two years of a four-year engineering degree before transferring to a university. With the addition of two Engineering Academies, students also have the opportunity to be co-enrolled with university partners while completing their foundational coursework.

The English Department at Houston City College offers a wide range of courses, including Composition I and II, literature studies across genres and periods, creative writing, and technical writing. These courses build strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills for academic and professional success.
