Coursework and hands-on experiences prepare them to become music business professionals, arrangers, songwriters, producers, and performers. The Music Program at Houston City College prepares students for seamless academic transfer to four-year universities to complete a bachelor’s degree in music. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in music theory, sight-singing and ear training, composition, and ensemble performance. Students also develop their skills through focused study in piano, voice, or instrumental concentrations.

Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) help people of all ages develop, recover, or improve the skills needed for daily living and working. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, OTAs work with patients who are recovering from injury, illness, or disability to build strength, coordination, and independence through therapeutic activities. They may assist patients in learning how to perform everyday tasks such as dressing, cooking, or using adaptive equipment, helping individuals live more independently at home, school, or work.

The mission of the Petroleum Engineering Technology program at Houston City College is to deliver high-quality education and hands-on training that prepare students for technical roles in the petroleum industry. The program focuses on developing practical skills, industry awareness, and workforce readiness for careers in exploration, drilling, production, and related operations.

The Real Estate program at Houston City College provides students with the knowledge and specialized skills needed for a wide range of careers in the real estate industry. Students can prepare for roles in residential sales, commercial real estate, mortgage lending, inspection, and property management.

The Studio Art program invites students to explore creative expression through hands-on practice, critical inquiry, and visual experimentation. Students in the six-semester Surgical Technology Program at Houston City College attend lectures and gain hands-on experience in the lab at Coleman College for Health Sciences. The program begins each fall and prepares students with the practical skills needed for surgical technology training.

The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) is a state-approved transfer degree that provides the first two years of coursework required for students pursuing Texas teacher certification. This program prepares future educators with foundational knowledge in teaching, learning, and child development and is designed for seamless transfer into a four-year bachelor’s degree leading to initial teacher certification.

Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, aerospace applications, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. Welding is also essential in construction, where it is used to join beams, build bridges, and connect pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries.

The World Language Program at Houston City College offers instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Courses are designed to help students build practical communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence in using the target language for real-world interactions, academic study, and global engagement.
